Who I Am
I have always had a fascination with people: their drives and motivations and what makes them tick. As well as training as a counsellor and psychotherapist, I have worked for many years as a journalist and writer. Through my own experiences in therapy, I developed a deep curiosity in the work and a passion to help others explore their own inner worlds: the endlessly complex relationship with self and others.
I am trained as an integrative (adaptable) psychotherapist which means that I have learnt a range of understandings about the human condition, and what makes us who we are. These include early child development and attachment, the role the unconscious plays in shaping our needs, desires and behaviours, and the impact of difficult experiences including traumas at different stages of life.
We can all be caught in unhealthy patterns of thought and behaviour without understanding why. We can carry debilitating tension and anxiety in our bodies. Our minds can be troubled by a persistent inner critic, crippling our self-esteem. There may be old wounds that need to be healed or difficulties in your life that simply cannot be discussed elsewhere. Recent events may have left you feeling overwhelmed. Therapy offers a safe, non-judgemental space to explore, reflect and change.
Each person and therapeutic relationship is unique. My integrative background helps me to adapt to a client’s specific needs. I have worked with adult clients of all ages, from 18 to 80-something, and from diverse backgrounds. Everyone is welcome and every part of them is welcome in therapy.
